A partir de 2016, la photographe portugaise Patrícia Almeida rassemble des documents sur la photographie. Elle trie les exemples qu'elle montre à ses étudiants, achète des manuels d'occasion, retrouve ses premiers négatifs. Elle projette d'écrire un livre sur son histoire personnelle de la photo- graphie. Quelques mois plus tard, Patrícia meurt et laisse son projet inachevé. Le jour de sa mort, l'employé des pompes funèbres demande à David-Alexandre Guéniot, le compagnon de la photographe, un portrait pour la veillée du corps.
"Sa dernière photographie" , pense-t-il alors... Le projet de Patrícia était relancé, mais à l'envers. Il s'agissait de raconter une histoire en commençant par la fin. Une histoire croisée entre recherche photographique et récit intimiste d'un deuil.
